Joining & Verification
Who can join Permit.ca as a Vendor?
Permit.ca is built for qualified construction and project professionals whose services match the work posted on the network. This can include architects, engineers, BCIN designers, surveyors, mechanical professionals, contractors and other qualified construction service providers.
Start by creating your Vendor application and completing the required verification before you begin quoting projects.
What do I need to complete verification?
Apply with your business details, professional licence or registration number, insurance information and the information required for identity verification through Permit.ca’s payments partner.
Complete the verification steps shown in your onboarding flow. Verification is completed before a Vendor can quote projects or receive payouts.
Why does Permit.ca verify Vendors?
Verification gives Clients clearer information about the Vendors they may hire and helps Permit.ca maintain a network of qualified professionals.
Provide accurate, current business, licence, registration and insurance information during onboarding so your profile can be reviewed properly.
Do I need to complete identity verification?
Yes. Identity verification (KYC) is completed through Permit.ca’s payments partner as part of the onboarding process. Complete it once during setup so your account can move through the required payment and payout workflow.
Project Opportunities
Where do I see projects matched to me?
Matched projects appear in your opportunities board. Open an opportunity to review the available project information, scope, location and other details before deciding whether it fits your services.
How does Permit.ca decide which projects I see?
Permit.ca matches projects using the information associated with the project and your Vendor profile, including your trade or service category and service area.
Keep your profile information current so the opportunities shown to you remain relevant to the work you actually provide.
Do project opportunities expire?
Yes. Each opportunity has a visible expiry date on the platform. Check that date before preparing a quote so you know exactly how long you have to review the scope and decide whether to quote or pass.
Do I have to quote every opportunity?
No. Review the project first. If the scope, location, timeline or type of work does not fit your business, you can pass and focus on opportunities that are a better match.
Are these only permit projects?
No. Permit.ca is built around broader construction project opportunities, including the professional services required across a project’s planning, design, permit and construction stages.
Your opportunities depend on the services and service area connected to your Vendor profile.
Quotes & Agreements
How do I send a quote?
Open the project opportunity and build a structured quote on Permit.ca. Add clear line items, price the work by milestone, set the timeline, describe the scope, identify relevant risks upfront and attach supporting documents where needed.
Review the full fee proposal before submitting it so the Client can clearly see what is included, what each item or stage costs and what you will deliver.
Can I add line items to my quote or fee proposal?
Yes. Build the quote so the Client can see what they are paying for. Add line items for the services, deliverables or project stages included in your fee proposal, and update those items when the agreed scope changes.
Keep every revision on-platform so the latest scope, pricing and quote history remain clear to both parties.
Do I pay anything if my quote is not accepted?
No. There is no charge to review an opportunity or submit a quote. The platform fee only applies when you are hired and receive milestone payouts.
Should I send a one-line price or a detailed quote?
Use the structured quote. Break the work into milestones, explain the scope and timeline, and attach supporting information where useful. This gives the Client enough detail to compare your proposal properly and helps establish a clear project record if the quote is accepted.
What happens if the Client counters my quote?
The Client’s counter-offer arrives with a note. Review the requested change, revise the quote where appropriate and resubmit it through Permit.ca.
Keep the negotiation on-platform so each version of the quote, scope and price remains documented in the project record.
What happens when the Client accepts my quote?
Once the Client accepts your quote, the project moves into the agreement stage. Review the final scope, milestones and price before signing the project agreement.
Who signs the project agreement first?
The Vendor signs first, then the Client signs. The agreement locks in the agreed scope, milestones and price before work begins.
Make sure any agreed change from the quote is documented in the agreement. Off-platform discussions do not replace what is recorded on Permit.ca.
Managing Projects
What professional standards are Vendors expected to follow?
Permit.ca is built for professional, reliable Vendors who communicate respectfully, show up on time, meet agreed commitments and provide quality work within the accepted scope.
Vendors are expected to follow Permit.ca’s Code of Ethics, network rules and applicable service-level expectations throughout the project.
Can I take a Client I met through Permit.ca off-platform?
No. Client relationships and projects introduced through Permit.ca must remain on-platform in accordance with the Terms of Service. Moving the scope, communication, quote, agreement or payment off-platform to bypass Permit.ca is treated as network circumvention.
Circumvention may result in immediate account restrictions, removal or banning from the network, internal disciplinary or blacklist status, and other action available under the Terms of Service or applicable law.
Where do I manage a project after my quote is accepted?
Manage the active job from your Vendor dashboard and project workspace. Open the project to follow milestones, due dates, files, submissions, project messages, payment status and activity tied to that job.
The project workspace should be your main place for managing the work instead of splitting important project information across separate email threads, messages and files.
How do I communicate with the Client?
Use Permit.ca’s project messaging and calling tools. Keeping project communication on-platform creates a shared record connected to the project and helps protect both parties if a scope, approval or dispute question arises later.
Do I have to share my personal phone number?
No. Calls can run through the platform using a proxy number, which helps keep your personal contact details private while keeping the communication connected to the project.
Where should I upload drawings, files or completed work?
Upload project files and milestone deliverables through the relevant project workspace. Attach completed work to the correct milestone so the Client can review the deliverable against the agreed scope.
Can I manage more than one project at a time?
Yes. You can manage multiple projects through your Vendor dashboard. Each project keeps its own agreement, milestones, due dates, files, approvals, payment status and payout history, so the records remain separate and clear.
Milestones & Submissions
When can I start the first milestone?
Start only after the project agreement is signed and the Client’s first milestone payment has cleared into the Permit Wallet. The project becomes active once that funding is in place.
Do milestones have to be completed in order?
Yes. Milestones are sequential. Complete and submit the current milestone before moving ahead to a later one. A later stage should not jump ahead of an earlier milestone that is still waiting for approval.
How do I submit a completed milestone?
Upload the required proof of completed work to the relevant milestone and submit that stage for Client review. Make sure the submission clearly matches the scope and deliverable agreed for that milestone.
What happens if the Client rejects a milestone?
The Client can reject the milestone with a reason instead of approving it. Review the reason, make the required revision where it falls within the agreed scope, and resubmit the milestone for review.
A rejection does not automatically mean a dispute. The normal path is to address the reason and resubmit the work where appropriate.
Payments & Payouts
Every milestone follows the same payment path, from Client funding through approval and payout.
Client funds the milestone
Wait for the funded status before beginning that stage.
You complete the work
Deliver the scope agreed for the current milestone.
You submit for review
Upload the deliverables and supporting details.
Client approves
Approval starts the fixed seven-day payout period.
You receive the payout
The fee is deducted and your Interac payout is sent.
How do I know the Client has funded the work?
The milestone status shows when the Client’s Interac e-Transfer has cleared into the Permit Wallet. Do not start the milestone based on a promise to pay — wait until the project shows the required funding status.
What is the Permit Wallet?
The Permit Wallet is the protected balance that holds the Client’s milestone payment between funding and approval. Once the Client funds the milestone, the money is already associated with that stage before you begin the work.
How are payouts sent?
Vendor payouts move by Interac e-Transfer through Permit.ca’s regulated payments partner. Link your Interac-enabled payout account through the secure connect flow before your first payout.
When will I receive an approved milestone payout?
Your payout is sent exactly seven days after Client approval. The seven-day period does not start when you complete or submit the milestone. It begins when the Client approves the completed work.
After approval, follow the payment in your Payouts Hub to see its progress toward day seven.
Do I have to request my payout manually?
No. Once the Client approves the milestone, the payout process begins automatically. You can follow the status and expected progress in your Payouts Hub.
Where do I track my earnings and payouts?
Use the Payouts Hub. It shows your total earned, what is still awaiting Client approval, what is on the way with a day-count toward day seven, and your payout history.
You can also manage your linked Interac payout details from the Payouts Hub and access available payout records and invoices.
What platform fee does a Vendor pay?
The platform fee is charged to the Vendor and is tiered by total project value:
- Under $10,000 CAD: 15%
- $10,000–$49,999.99 CAD: 10%
- $50,000 CAD or more: 5%
The fee tier is based on the total accepted project value and should be considered when reviewing and pricing the project.
When is the platform fee deducted?
The applicable platform fee is deducted from each approved milestone payout. You are not charged when you join, browse opportunities or submit a quote.
How is the fee calculated when a project has multiple milestones?
The fee tier is determined by the total accepted value of the project, not by the value of each individual milestone. The same percentage is then applied to every milestone payout for that project.
For example, a $12,000 project falls within the 10% tier even when the work is divided into several milestones.
How are fees calculated when I have multiple projects?
Each project is calculated separately using its own total accepted value. The combined value of all your active projects does not determine one shared fee tier.
For example, a $7,000 project falls within the 15% tier, while a separate $15,000 project falls within the 10% tier.
When is the next milestone funded?
The Client funds one milestone at a time. After the current milestone is completed and approved, the next milestone can be funded. Wait until the next stage shows the required funded status before beginning that work.
What happens if a milestone is too large for one Interac e-Transfer?
A large milestone can be split into multiple linked Interac e-Transfers to respect transfer and daily limits. You may therefore see more than one transfer associated with the same milestone rather than one large payment.
Disputes & Scope Changes
Can I raise a dispute if the Client will not approve completed work?
Yes. If you believe you completed the agreed milestone and the approval issue cannot be resolved normally, raise a documented dispute through Permit.ca rather than trying to handle the payment issue outside the project.
Permit.ca reviews the documented scope, submitted work and project communications as part of the dispute process.
Can the Client also raise a dispute?
Yes. Either the Vendor or the Client can raise a dispute through the applicable workflow before the payout is sent. If a dispute is opened, the normal payout path is placed on hold while the issue is reviewed.
Can a payout be reversed after it has been sent?
A dispute can place a payout on hold before the payout is sent. Once the payout has been completed, the normal Permit.ca dispute process does not reverse that completed payout.
What should I do if the Client asks for extra work?
Do not absorb additional work into the existing scope without documenting it. Update the scope, price or milestones on-platform before proceeding with the extra work.
This keeps the additional work clear for both parties and protects the payment record attached to your project.
Can a Client receive a refund after I have started?
Refunds can apply in limited situations. A Client may be refunded before work on a milestone starts, or a reviewed split may apply after partial work. A refund does not come out of a milestone that has already been paid to you.
Account & Support
How do I update my payout method?
Open your Payouts Hub and use the payout-method controls to link or update your Interac payout details. Check the connection status before expecting your next payout.
How do completed projects help my profile?
Completed projects contribute to your rating and completed-project history. Future Clients can use that information when comparing Vendors and deciding which quote to accept.
Complete milestones through the platform and keep the project record current so your completed work is properly reflected in your network history.
